Thank You - Arno & Ine!

25-02-2011 - Private Initiative - Despite Nepal's abundant water resources, the population suffers from severe water scarcity because of a lack of investment in and poor management of water supply services. Most of the 1.5 million residents of the Kathmandu Valley receive piped water for only one day per week. This means households have to rely on either expensive water, which is brought in by tankers or is bottled, or unsafe water from shallow wells.
Also our Child 'N Family center needed to struggle for every drop of water. After some thorough investigations, we decided to rehabilitate the hand dug well on the grounds of the center. The well was dug deeper and protected to prevent contamination by adding twelve pre-cast concrete rings. Because the water passes through layers of sand, stones and gravel, it is filtered and, after boiling, safe to drink. Furthermore, we purchased a strong electric machine to be able to pump up the water and fill our two storage tanks. In the coming dry months, we can rely on the groundwater for drinking and cleaning water in the center!
DCF would like to thank Arno (who lived in DCH for a while) and Ine, ho made it possible to finance these water works. Arno's bicycle was sold to Hotel Ganesh Himal and Ine spoke to a lot of tourists there who donated various gifts for this important project.
