Thank You - Saskia & Daan!

14-08-2009 - Private Initiative - Saskia van Leeuwen, the dentist of our Secretary Ine, always tries to combine her holidays with volunteering. Like this year in Ecuador, where she attended our Child 'N Family center in Ambato during three days. In total, around 60 indigenous children from families with low income visited our dentist. Since Saskia didn't have a complete dental equipment, she could only offer preventive dentistry. She counted and checked the teeth, and gave advice about cavities, bad molars, irritated gums and infections. With her "assistant" and translator Ine she gave a lesson in brushing teeth. Furthermore, she treated the children's teeth with fluorine to make them stronger. All kids got a toothbrush and toothpaste from Saskia. They also received a certificate signed by the dentist, which they colored.
A lot of children also brought their parents and Saskia checked their teeth as well. She removed tartar and gave them advice on further treatment if necessary.
