Education in CNF Ecuador
18-06-2010 -The children, who temporary live with us, get a roof above their head, food, care, love and education.
Our center focuses on systemic therapy, which does not only involve the family, but also other people the child has a relationship with. In school, an important part of the child's interactional patterns and dynamics are developed. That is why we try to send the children as much as possible to their own primary schools. At this moment, eight of the ten kids are brought to school by the concierge every weekday. It is good that the children can maintain the friendships with their classmates and receive lessons from their own teachers. In Ecuador primary school is only part-time, which means the concierge picks them up around lunchtime. In the afternoon, they make homework in our center, supervised by the child caretakers and students. A few weeks ago, two of the children came home with their school reports and they are doing very well; they have notes between 7,5 and 9,5 out of 10! The school year is almost over now and soon they will have end of term exams, followed by summer holidays.
When the school of the children is too far away, or problems at school led to the at-risk situation of the child, we teach them in the center. The parents stay in contact with the school and bring us the textbooks and subject material. Our personnel members also visit the teachers to check if the children are up-to-date with their educational curriculum. In this way, they can easily re-start at school when they are reunited with their family.
