The Story of Nijila
Nijila is a teenager from the western region of Nepal. Because of a landslide in her village five years ago, her spine got hurt. That is why both her legs are chronically weak and she has to walk with the support of a stick. Her father died when she was fourteen and her mother had to sell the little piece of land to be able to pay Nijila's treatment. After that, it became very difficult to support the family with seven children.

Through one of her friends, Nijila was put in contact with our center in Kathmandu. She got admitted to the sewing and cutting training and finalized it successfully after a year. During all that time, she stayed in close contact with her family and visited them during festivals. In the children's home she learned how to deal with her disability and regained her self respect. Which was also reflected in her home situation: her family members have now accepted her handicap.

Thanks to the guidance of our staff, her own persistence and her positive character, Nijila has been able to change the way people see her. And when she came back home, a local organization offered her a job as a tailoring teacher. That is how Nijila can now contribute to the education of her siblings and why she is again considered a complete person by the people surrounding her.
